Some highlights and influences of space exploration (looking back) :

March 2017: Elon Musk’s SpaceX achieved the first re-flight of an orbital class rocket

August 2012: Curiosity Rover landed on Mars (developed and operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

2004: Richard Branson starts Virgin Galactic, with the hopes of providing human space travel for non-astronauts

July 23, 1999: Chandra X-Ray Observatory launched from Space Shuttle STS-93 by NASA

1977: George Lucas created the first Star Wars movie…and Leslie got her architecture degree!

July 20, 1969: Apollo 11 and the first moonwalk by Neil Armstrong. Remember “One small step for man; One giant leap for Mankind”?

1968: Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey, in our opinion, still the best Science Fiction Space Exploration movie: humble and awe inspiring.

Fall of 1966: Star Trek, created by Gene Roddenberry, with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, and the rest of the Crew, and space exploration fever infects the country.

April 12, 1961: Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gargarin was first human being to travel into space. Space Race begins.

1936: Jet Propulsion Laboratory, formed in the Fall of 1936, to develop jet assisted take-off rockets for the Army, now part of NASA for the construction of planetary robotic spacecraft.
